Postdoc or PhD Student (M / F) : Heidelberg, Germany
The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 2,300 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research. The Division of Theoretical Bioinformatics (Kst. B080) is seeking a Postdoc or PhD Student (m/f) (Ref- No. 24/2012)
Description:
In a truly multidisciplinary environment of cell biology, screening microscopy, and image analysis, the newly established intelligent imaging group (head: Dr. Christian Conrad) works on systems biology/medicine approaches at the level of single cells and cultured tissues. For this, we use high- end confocal microscopy and emerging fluorescence imaging technologies to capture quantitative biological data. Automation by image processing and machine vision are key methods to remotely control microscope systems and dispensing devices in an unbiased and intelligent way (Conrad et al. 2011 Nat Meth).
The group is embedded in a network of joint research labs (Division of Prof. Roland Eils) and part of the BioQuant center in Heidelberg.
We are looking for Postdoc or PhD student to carry out projects in the area of (i) 3D cell culture, (ii) automatic quantitative 4D imaging, and (iii) classification and modeling of biological events.
Your profile:
• Educational background (Diploma, Master or PhD) in biology, bioengineering, biophysics, or related areas of science
• Previous experience in experimental cell biology, microscopy, and computational
data analysis is an advantage
• Knowledge of optics, image processing, and/or programming skills
(Python, Labview, C#, VB.NET) would be a surplus
Applications including a cover letter, CV and references (if available) should be submitted as one singlePDF.
The position is limited for 2 years (Postdoc) or 3 years (PhD Student).
