Postdoctoral Associate in Genomics : Ithaca, United States

Background:
This NSF funded project seeks to apply high-throughput DNA/RNA sequencing, mass-spec proteomics technologies to do comparative studies of plants with C3 and C4 photosynthetic systems. High through data set from different “omics” platforms will be integrated and modeled computationally to facilitate the understanding of the developmental mechanism of these two different photosynthetic systems.

Responsibilities:
The position is available immediately in the Computational Biology Service Unit of Cornell University. The successful candidate is expected to analyze/integrate RNA-seq (both mRNA and small RNA), mass-spec proteomics, mass-spec metabolomics data, comparative genomic data generated from this project. The candidate will work closely with a team of experimental biologists who will generate data and verify the results, system biologists who will do computational modeling, and statisticians who will do statistics data analysis. The research area includes data integration from different “omics” platforms; develop data models for data integration, comparative genomics study across closely related species, high throughput database management. There will be good opportunities for the candidate to improve bioinformatics data analysis skills and gain experience on many different large-scale biological platforms data analysis, by learning from an active bioinformatics community at Cornell. We have a High Performance Computing team in the group who can provide high level computational support.

Requirements:
The applicant will have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics or a related field. Skills with at least one computer programming language are required. Research experience in genomics and or proteomics is preferred.
