Postdoctoral fellow in molecular biology : Norway

12/03/2012 23:21

This postdoctoral position is associated with Professor Rein Aasland's group whose field of research is chromatin-based gene regulation and epigenetics. Topic for the research is the function of regulatory proteins and protein domains that modulate chromatin. The group focuses on acetylation and methylation of histones and how these modifications carry information on gene expression status. Ongoing projects concern the histone acetyltransferase p300 and CW, a new domain that binds methylated histones (EMBO J. 30:1939, 2011), both related to enhancer function. The group uses methods from gene technology, biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, and bioinformatics, and is linked to a network of Norwegian and international researchers through an EU project.

Description

The successful applicant must have a strong background in molecular biology and a sincere interest in the mechanisms of gene regulation. Candidates experienced with expression, purification, and analysis of proteins will be preferred. We are seeking a competent, motivated and hard-working candidate with good communication skills, abilities for team work and supervision of students. Good command of English is important and knowledge of Norwegian is an advantage. Applicants must have achieved a Norwegian doctorate or equivalent education abroad, or have presented the dissertation for assessment by the closing date for applications.
